CAMBRIDGE and LONDON, August 17th 2011 - Digital Healthcare announces today that
is has acquired Orion Imaging a provider of management software to the UK's diabetic
retinopathy screening programmes.
Orion Imaging provides management software to the UK's diabetic retinopathy screening
programmes and also provides the EyeCap imaging product under partnership with Haag-Streit.
The acquisition will increase Digital Healthcare’s capacity to deliver many of the
requirements for improvement that were recently outlined in the consultation paper
“Software Improvement Project” by the English National Screening Programme for Diabetic
Retinopathy (ENSPDR). Digital Healthcare is also very keen to build upon the position
of EyeCap and the successful relationship that Orion has built with Haag-Streit.
Commenting on the acquisition, Kevin McDonnell, Managing Director of Digital Healthcare
said: “The acquisition of Orion Imaging is a good strategic fit with our existing
product and service offering to diabetic retinopathy screening programmes. It will
provide us with the opportunity to create a best of breed solution that will not
only meet the local needs of retinopathy screening programmes but will also allow
us to deliver benefits nationally that can address many if not all of the benefits
that the ENSPDR aspires to achieve”.
Tony Pegg, CEO of Orion added: “Digital Healthcare and Orion Imaging will make an
excellent combination and will I am sure have a hugely successful future under Kevin
McDonnell's leadership. I shall be stepping down from my position with Orion with
immediate effect and would like to wish everyone well at the new combined business”.
