Genesys Integrated Group Practice selects Retasure

Genesys Integrated Group Practice in Flint, Michigan has announced that it will be implementing Retasure™ by Digital Healthcare, a Wake Forest, NC company specializing in retinal health assessment for patients with diabetes.

Genesys Integrated Group Practice is part of the Genesys Health System. Genesys is a regionally integrated health care delivery system comprised of a complete continuum of care primarily servicing Genesee, Shiawassee, Lapeer, Oakland, Livingston and Tuscola counties with an additional four counties in the secondary market. Over 140 family physicians in the Genesys network act as health advocates offering ready resource to outpatient ambulatory care, physical medicine treatment, and mental health services.

The Retasure™ solution developed by Digital Healthcare provides a simple, non-invasive solution that allows physicians to capture their patients' retinal images during a three to five minute procedure. Images are transmitted over a secure network to an accredited reading center. "Many diabetic patients do not see an eye-care specialist until they actually experience vision loss," states Mike James, CEO of Genesys Integrated Group Practice. "Retasure will enable our providers to better care for their patients with diabetes by providing eye health assessments in the primary care setting."

Marc Winchester, President of North American Operations for Digital Healthcare, agrees. "We applaud the Genesys community of physicians for bringing this vital service to their community. According to the National Eye Institute, diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness among working age adults in America." he states, "but, sadly, fewer than half of all patients with diabetes are assessed annually for retinopathy, despite the high frequency of this complication. We feel strongly that use of Retasure can lower that figure."

Digital Healthcare's Retasure solution offers several advantages for primary care and endocrinologist physicians and their patients: It can be operated by non-clinicians; it is non-invasive and requires no dilation; and it obtains exceptionally high-quality digital images of the retina. This FDA-approved technology is used by a broad range of doctors and facilities throughout the United States and the United Kingdom, including leading hospitals and research centers, primary care groups, private ophthalmology and optometry groups, family practice residency centers, and internal, multi-specialty and endocrinology groups.
